To select specific sections for your announcement, click the&nbsp;<strong>Post to<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down menu and select sections from the list provided. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Note:&nbsp;<\/strong>If your course does not have sections, Canvas will still show the All Sections option, and all course users can view the announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Teachers and TA&#8217;s are notified of all new course Announcements, unless they are Section restricted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"add-attachment\">Add Attachment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/at.csudh.edu\/canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/f7a0d230-e597-4852-bcc3-926899b5339d.png\" alt=\"Add Attachment\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">To add an attachment to your discussion, click the&nbsp;<strong>Choose File&nbsp;<\/strong>button [1].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If required by your institution, you will need to select usage right settings for your attachment. To manage usage right settings, click the&nbsp;<strong>Set usage rights<\/strong>&nbsp;icon [2].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the&nbsp;<strong>Usage Right&nbsp;<\/strong>drop-down menu [3], select one of five usage rights. If you are an instructor and are not sure which usage right applies to your file, please consult your institutional admin for guidance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I hold the copyright (original content created by you)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I have obtained permission to use the file (authorized permission by the author)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The material is in the public domain (explicitly assigned to public domain, cannot be copyrighted, or is no longer protected by copyright)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The material is subject to an exception &#8211; e.g. fair use, the right to quote, or others under applicable copyright laws (excerpt or summary used for commentary, news reporting, research, or analysis in education)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The material is licensed under&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Creative Commons<\/a>; this option also requires setting a specific Creative Commons license<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If known, enter the copyright holder information in the&nbsp;<strong>Copyright Holder&nbsp;<\/strong>field [4].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">To save your usage right settings, click the&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>&nbsp;button [5]. You can edit usage right settings by clicking the Set usage rights icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"select-announcement-options\">Select Options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/at.csudh.edu\/canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/92b8f074-9f27-4da2-9266-fbe0e7d5cfb6.png\" alt=\"Select Announcement Options\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the Options section, you can select various options for your announcement. You can delay the posting of your announcement [1], which allows you to schedule the announcement for a future date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Additionally, you can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-allow-or-disallow-announcement-replies-in-a-course\/ta-p\/707\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allow users to comment<\/a>&nbsp;on the announcement [2] and require students to reply to a post before seeing other replies [3].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">You can also enable an announcement podcast feed [4] and allow students to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-allow-students-to-like-replies-in-a-course-announcement\/ta-p\/1220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">like announcement replies<\/a>&nbsp;[5].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">By default, comments are not allowed in announcements unless the Allow users to comment checkbox is selected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Allow users to comment option is persistent, meaning the option you select when creating or editing an announcement will carry over when you create a new announcement in the course. However, the Users must post before seeing replies option is not persistent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Comment options may not be available to you if announcement comments are disabled in your course.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-disable-announcement-replies-for-an-entire-course\/ta-p\/904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Check your Course Settings<\/a>&nbsp;if you cannot view these checkboxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"save_announcement\">Publish Announcement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/at.csudh.edu\/canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/994d5f50-af00-4801-9291-8c22f807ed86.png\" alt=\"Publish Announcement\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the&nbsp;<strong>Publish<\/strong>&nbsp;button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: Unless you are using the delay posting option in Announcements, once you click Publish, your announcement will immediately be posted in your course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Announcements Overview Open Announcements In Course Navigation, click the&nbsp;Announcements&nbsp;link.
